Audio and files you upload

When you use a web tool like Audio to Text, the file you upload is sent to our backend and forwarded directly to our speech recognition provider for transcription. Our backend processes the file in memory only — it is never written to disk or stored in a database — and is discarded once the transcript is returned. We do not keep a copy of your audio.

Transcripts

The resulting transcript is returned to your browser and stays in the web page's memory only. It is not saved to any server or account. If you refresh or close the tab before copying or downloading it, it is gone — we have no copy to recover it from. Downloading a transcript saves a file to your own device using your browser; we never see that file.

Processing providers

Audio is processed by GroqCloud to produce a transcript. Groq states that inference inputs and outputs are not retained by default, but may be temporarily logged for reliability or abuse monitoring for up to 30 days. Usage metadata that does not contain your audio or transcript may be retained by the provider under their own policies.

Cloud dictation in the Android app is transcribed by ElevenLabs, with GroqCloud used whenever ElevenLabs is unavailable. Unlike Groq, ElevenLabs keeps the audio and transcript it receives, for a period it does not specify, to provide its service, troubleshoot problems and keep its systems secure, as set out in the ElevenLabs Privacy Policy. If you would rather nothing leaves your phone, use on-device dictation in the app instead.

Technical and abuse-prevention data

To keep the free tools usable and prevent abuse, our backend temporarily tracks request counts by IP address to apply rate limits. This is held in server memory, not a database, and is not linked to your audio or transcript content.

Website analytics, ads, and cookies

We use Vercel Web Analytics to measure page views and basic product events without third-party cookies. We do not send Vercel your audio, transcripts, filenames, email address, or raw error messages.

Google Analytics and the ads that help keep these tools free are both optional, controlled by the same choice. If you allow it, Google receives page views and events when you open or finish using a tool, copy or download a result, or join the waitlist, and we show ads served by Google AdSense. Google Signals and ad personalization remain disabled regardless of your choice, so ads you see are not tailored to your activity on this site. You can change your choice at any time through Cookie settings in the footer.

If you allow it, Google may receive your IP address, the full page URL and its query parameters, the referring page, browser and device details, and approximate location. Our custom events contain tool and action labels, not uploaded files, transcript text, filenames, or email form values. Google and its advertising partners may also set cookies to serve ads and measure their performance. Google handles this information under its Privacy Policy and how Google uses information from sites that use its services. You can review or turn off Google's advertising cookies at Google Ads Settings.

Waitlist emails

If you enter your email on the download page to be notified when the Android app launches, we store that address to send you that one notification. It is not used for any other marketing and is not shared with third parties, other than the email-delivery provider we use to send the notification.

The Android app

Microphone and speech. The app records audio only while you dictate or record. With cloud transcription, the audio is sent to our backend, which passes it to a speech provider (see Processing providers) without storing it. With on-device transcription, a speech model you download to your phone transcribes it there, and the audio and text are not sent anywhere. If you enter your own Groq API key, audio goes from your phone directly to Groq and never reaches our servers.

Accessibility service. The floating Bubble uses an Android accessibility service to type your dictated text into the field you are editing. It does not read the rest of your screen. The optional “Use nearby text” setting, off by default, reads text around the cursor and sends it with that dictation so names and tone come out right; it is not stored.

Notes, recordings and history. Your dictation history, recordings, notes and their audio are stored on your phone, not on our servers. Summaries, notes and other text made from them are produced by sending the text to our backend and provider; the result is returned to your phone and not kept. Uninstalling the app or deleting items in it removes them.

Usage limits. The free plan includes a weekly amount of cloud audio. To count it, the app sends an identifier for your phone (Android's app-specific device ID) with cloud requests. Our server stores only a one-way hash of that identifier, together with the seconds of cloud audio used in the current week or month. This is not linked to the content of your audio or text.

Subscriptions. VoxaType Pro is sold and billed by Google Play; we never receive your card or payment details. When you subscribe or restore a purchase, we receive from Google a purchase token and the subscription's status (plan and renewal or expiry date), which we check with Google and store against the hashed identifier to turn Pro on. Google handles your payment information under its Privacy Policy.

Security and sensitive content

Data is transmitted over encrypted HTTPS connections. No online service can guarantee absolute security. Please don't upload audio containing passwords, authentication codes, payment details, health records, or other highly sensitive information, and only upload content you have the right to transcribe.

Children

VoxaType is not directed to children under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Your choices

Because we don't retain your audio or transcripts, there is nothing server-side to request deletion of after a request completes. The app's usage counts and subscription status can be deleted on request; an active subscription is cancelled in Google Play. If you joined the download waitlist and want your email removed, want app records deleted, or have other privacy questions, contact hello@voxatype.com.

Changes

We may update this policy as VoxaType changes. The effective date above will be revised when material changes are published.
