Who it's for
- Archival-quality recordings — Field recorders and audiophile gear that offer FLAC as a lossless option.
- Music and podcast masters — Studio masters are often kept as FLAC before final export.
- Smaller lossless alternative to WAV — When file size matters but you don't want to lose any audio detail.
Example
A lossless field recording
Input
“test test, one two three, checking levels”
Output
Test, test — one, two, three. Checking levels.
Frequently asked questions
Does lossless compression affect transcription accuracy?
No — FLAC is lossless, so it contains exactly the same audio information as an uncompressed WAV, just packed into a smaller file. Transcription accuracy is identical to WAV.
Does this only work with FLAC files?
No — it also accepts MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG, and WEBM. This page is tuned for FLAC specifically since it's the common lossless choice for field recorders and audio archives.
Is it free?
Yes. It's free with no account required, limited to a fair-use number of transcriptions per hour to keep it available for everyone.
What's the file size and length limit?
Up to 200MB and 90 minutes per file on the free tier — since FLAC is lossless, longer recordings may hit the size limit before the time limit.
Is my file stored on your servers?
No. It's processed in memory during transcription and discarded immediately after — never written to disk or a database.
